The Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) terminated 626 existing healthcare workers, just after nearly 10,000 vacancies were notified in the Health Department. These terminated health workers included Civil Assistant Surgeons, doctors, nurses and lab technicians who were recruited in September 2021.

These health workers were mostly from the Golconda, Vanasthalipuram, Kondapur and Malakpet Area Hospitals, who were hired both via contract and outsourcing methods. The order comes after, the government withdrew GO Nos: 1,215 and 1,384 under which they were appointed.

According to healthcare workers, these numbers could increase more as two more GOs under which recruitment was done could also be withdrawn. The affected doctors said that very less time was left for them to search for different options or clear exams and get jobs and would highly impact their careers.

This decision would also impact the patient-to-doctor ratio as the current staff was just enough for the patient population and more terminations could adversely impact the health service delivery.
